Lockheed Martin Space is seeking a mechanical engineering intern for our site in Kings Bay, Georgia. Under direction of experienced personnel, the candidate will provide mechanical engineering research and design requirement support for the assembly/disassembly, test, onload/offload of Trident II D5 missiles and missile subassemblies inside of restricted access areas alongside our Navy customer, various LM organizations, and appropriate contractors. Operations are conducted in ordnance processing buildings at Strategic Weapons Facility Atlantic (SWFLANT), Kings Bay, Georgia.
In this role will offer you the following daily key responsibilities:
The candidate will perform investigative research to develop solutions to mechanical anomalies/failures discovered during the processing of missile hardware (issues related to propulsion, structures, ordnance, controls, avionics, and reentry hardware, SU operations, missile packs/unpacks, etc.) based on design requirements and subsequently propose those resolutions for action. Apply mechanical engineering principles to develop design recommendations as required in order to correct/resolve difficult and complex anomalies. Must be able to lead engineering evaluations for new design changes, documentation, equipment, processes, or capabilities as required and document technical investigations in reports and provide status to management. Must be willing to work around ordnance.
Please note that this position does NOT support teleworking; the preferred candidate will be located near our Lockheed Martin Space facility in Kings Bay, GA, and will be expected to work in the office.
Basic Qualifications
• Actively enrolled in a Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering or other related engineering degree program from an accredited college or university.
• Ability and willingness to work around ordnance
• Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, & Excel) computer skills
• You will need to be a US Citizen (no dual citizens), and be able to obtain and maintain a US DoD TOP SECRET clearance, to support this government contract, as well as successfully pass a drug and background check, in order to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
